Robert A. (Bob) Finley began his training in martial arts in 1970 while in college at Texas A&M University. He achieved a black belt (shodan rank) in Isshinryu karate in 1972. While at A&M, he was President and Chief Instructor of the Isshinryu Karate School 1973-1974. After graduation in 1974, he studied Tae Kwon Do for two years in Houston, Texas. In 1994, Bob moved to Duncanville, Texas and began studying Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo. He is currently honored to hold the following ranks, titles, and/or certifications*

  • Godan Renshi (5th Degree Black Belt)

  • Yondan (4th Degree Black Belt) Kobudo

  • Kiyoushi

  • Instructor License

In addition, Mr. Finley has taught martial arts classes as a contractor for the Dallas Independent School District.



Jecku Jacob began his martial arts training in 1998 in Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo. He achieved a black belt (shodan rank) in 2002. 

Mr. Jacob is currently honored to hold the following ranks, titles, and/or certifications*:

  • Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt)

  • Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) Kobudo

  • Instructor License

He also holds a Peace Officer's license.




William Glynn began his martial arts training in 2004 in Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo Karate. He achieved a black belt in 2008. Mr.Glynn is an assistant instructor. Mr. Glynn is currently honored to hold the following ranks, titles, and/or certifications*:

  • Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt)

  • Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) Kobudo

  • Assistant Instructor License



Rick Labrum began his martial arts training in American Free Style during high school in 1983 in Collierville, Tennessee (outside Memphis). He achieved a black belt in 1986. During this time frame, he competed regularly at karate tournaments where he won 1st place approximately 23 times. After high school, he was not active in the martial arts until enrolling as a student in Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo in 2007. He achieved a black belt in 2009.

Mr. Labrum is currently honored to hold the following ranks, titles, and/or certifications*:

  • Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt)

  • Shodan Kobudo

  • Assistant Instructor's License



Flora Labrum was introduced to basic kung fu training in the 3rd grade in Taiwan . She began her formal adult karate training at Texas Kobukan Karate in 2008 and achieved her black belt (shodan rank) in 2010. Ms. Labrum is currently honored to hold the following ranks, titles, and/or certifications*:

  • Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt)

  • Shodan Kobudo




Sarah Jones began her martial arts training in 2002 in Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo Karate. She had continued studies, both at Texas Kobukan and independently while away at college, since that time. She achieved a black belt in 2007. Ms. Jones is an assistant instructor, but has been away from the dojo while teaching English in Japan. While in Japan, Sarah has been studying Aikido. Due to the recent events in Japan, Ms. Jones is back in the USA and once again actively participating in our dojo.


Ms. Jones is currently honored to hold the following ranks, titles, and/or certifications*:

  • Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt)

  • Shodan Kobudo

 



Anna Schmidt began her martial arts training in 2004 in Shorin Ryu Matsumura Kenpo Karate and studied continually since that time. She achieved a black belt in 2007. Ms. Schmidt is an assistant instructor, but has been away from the dojo while attending college. She is currently honored to hold the following ranks, titles, and/or certifications*:

  • Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt)
